TWO North East businesses are set to take their first steps into the Middle East market – thanks to The Journal.

Door systems specialist PC Henderson and Durham-based events firm She’s Gott It are both planning to launch in Dubai after winning a place on a fact-finding mission through a competition in the newspaper.

The businesses won a place on the five-day trip to Dubai along with Distinction Consultants, a team-building and training firm which has already set up a base in the city.

And yesterday, directors of both businesses were at St James’s Park in Newcastle to pass on what they learned from the visit to an audience of North East businesspeople at a North East Chamber of Commerce event.

During the trip the group had meetings with a range of officials including the Government’s economic department, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, the British Embassy and representatives from several ‘free zones’ – tax-free areas where foreign businesses can set up in Dubai without having to take a local shareholder on board.

She’s Gott It managing director Nickie Gott, who was on her fourth business trip to Dubai, said the latest visit had convinced her that it was the right time to move into the UAE, which she described as the “safest and most professional environment I’ve ever done business in”.

“It was a fantastic trip because we got such a rounded picture of what it was like to do business in Dubai,” she said. “We met with lots of different types of businesspeople, from emirates to ex-pats.

“The trip has completely and utterly convinced me that there is a market in Dubai for She’s Gott It and I am now in the process of working with contacts to secure a place out there.”
