The Edinburgh Winter Festival was launched in 2001 after combining the city’s famous Hogmanay celebrations with Christmas events. The festival now pumps an estimated £37 million in the local economy and attracts more than 400,000 visitors to the city.
Edinburgh’s Christmas Festival 2007 kicked off in November with the official switch-on of Edinburgh’s Christmas lights on Thursday 22nd November. The fun continued for the entire month with a programme packed with spectacular events, performances, fairground rides, markets and stacks of things for everyone to do.
The event ran from Thursday 22nd November 2007 until Sunday 6th January 2008. This year’s events will run for a period of approximately 6-8 weeks.
